Drive & Dine Event: The Scenic Route to Middleburg, Virginia

Saturday, September 6, 2025

(Rain date Sunday, September 7)

Get ready for a scenic Drive & Dine experience in Middleburg, Virginia, on Saturday, September 6, and we invite our friends in the Rolls-Royce Owner's Club to join us.

We'll explore a beautiful drive through picturesque, rolling country roads to Middleburg, known as "the nation's horse and hunt capital." Early September is the perfect time to enjoy this getaway to a place famous for its foxhunting, steeplechase, and equine-friendly estates.

Here's the itinerary for the day:

9:30 a.m.: Meet at Hidden Julles Cafe, 14950 Washington St, Haymarket, VA 20169. We'll enjoy organic, locally sourced baked goods and coffee before our drive.

10:30 a.m.: Our distinguished caravan will set off on a scenic drive led by GWS Member Paul Waddell, who, along with his wife, Mary Kim Waddell, knows the roads in and around Middleburg incredibly well. They've planned a fun contest: the person who spots the most landmarks will receive a prize! See how many markers, memorials, mileposts, and mini-monuments you can find. Please note that stopping for photos is not required; safety is our top priority, and this contest will operate on the honor system.

Our drive will take us from Haymarket on rural two-lane Route 55 to Marshall, Virginia, then onto historic Rectortown Road. We'll return to Route 55 for the next leg of our journey to Markham, Virginia, where we'll take Route 688 to Route 50. Route 50 will lead us directly to Middleburg, where we'll have lunch in the most popular section of town.

1:45 p.m.: Lunch on Washington Street in Middleburg, Virginia.

Important: We secured a reservation for 20 people at King Street Oyster Bar (1 East Washington Street, Middleburg, VA 20117), available to those who register first. Space at the table is limited; please inform us in advance if you are unable to join us for lunch on Saturday.

Those who register after that particular threshold are not at a loss because there are several other restaurants nearby, such as the popular Red Horse Tavern (118 W. Washington Street, Middleburg, VA 20117), which offers outdoor seating.

Of course, if the rain date becomes necessary, we'll all play it by ear for lunch on Sunday!

3:00 p.m.: After lunch, feel free to stroll along Washington Street and explore the many charming shops, boutiques, and galleries the quaint town has to offer.

We look forward to a fantastic day out!

Suggestion: Make sure you have a navigator in your car to follow the directions so the driver won’t have to multitask and can safely enjoy all the views, too.

Special thanks to Paul & Mary Kim Waddell for championing this event!
